چکیده

BACKGROUND Successful total knee replacement (TKR) requires accurate component placement and coronal plane malalignment of greater than 3o varus/valgus from the mechanical axis has been shown to predispose to early failure.1–3 An extramedullary alignment jig is most commonly used to identify the mechanical axis. The distal end of the jig should be centred over the ankle mortise, which can be difficult to assess when the leg is covered by surgical drapes, particularly in obese patients.

Radiographic results of an accelerometer-based, handheld surgical navigation system for the tibial resection in total knee arthroplasty.

In total knee arthroplasty (TKA), intramedullary and extramedullary tibial alignment guides are not proven to be highly accurate in obtaining alignment perpendicular to the mechanical axis in the coronal plane. The objective of this study was to determine the accuracy of an accelerometer-based, handheld surgical navigation system in obtaining a postoperative tibial component alignment within 2°...

Tibial component rotation in total knee arthroplasty

BACKGROUND Both the range of motion (ROM) technique and the tibial tubercle landmark (TTL) technique are frequently used to align the tibial component into proper rotational position during total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The aim of the study was to assess the intra-operative differences in tibial rotation position during computer-navigated primary TKA using either the TTL or ROM techniques. The...

Measurement of Posterior Tibial Slope Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Background: Posterior tibial slope (PTS) is an important factor in the knee joint biomechanics and one of the bone features, which leads to knee joint stability. Posterior tibial slope affects flexion gap, knee joint stability and posterior femoral rollback that are related to wide range of knee motion. During high tibial osteotomy and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) surgery, proper retaining the...

The Impact of Pinless Navigation in Conventionally Aligned Total Knee Arthroplasty

Background Restoration of the mechanical axis is a main objective in total knee replacement (TKR). Aim of this study was to analyse the verification tool of a pinless navigation system in conventional TKR (cTKR). Methods In a prospective study, 147 TKR were performed by conventional technique. Using the "pinless verification" mode of a smartphone based navigation system, the cutting block pos...
